Superbowl weekend! - It's all about the film trailers!

Updated: May 21, 2022

So the weekend of 3rd and 4th of February 2018 was the the most anticipated sports event in America for fans of American Football. I am in England so unfortunately I did not stay up to watch the actual event (as much as I would probably like to). By the way, lets all give the Philadelphia Eagles a massive congratulations on their first ever Superbowl title win! (Sorry if this is a spoiler for you, oops).

But for me the Superbowl weekend is all about the release of big film trailers! We were not disappointed either. Not only did we get to see a second trailer for Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War but we also got to see the long awaited Solo: A Star Wars Story teaser trailer!

Directed by Ron Howard (Apollo 13) Starring Alden Ehrenreich as a young Han Solo and also a great supporting cast including: Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Joonas Suotamo and Paul Bettany, the world is to be introduced to the beginning of the famous space scoundrel's origin.

Many critics have already been quick to judge Solo: A Star Wars Story even before the release of the trailers or the film itself. In my opinion, I do think it will be hard to accept seeing someone else on screen playing the role of Han. Harrison Ford is Han Solo. But I'm quite enthusiastic about Solo too. Plus it's an excuse to see another Star Wars cinematic release (big old nerd here!)

I enjoyed what the teaser trailer had to offer and I'm really intrigued to see more! Solo: A Star Wars Story is in cinemas from 25th May 2018!

Enough waffling from me. Here is the long awaited teaser trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story:

Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War

As I mentioned previously, the new Avengers: Infinity War trailer was also released during the Superbowl weekend. I think this will be my film of the year! I'm super (pardon the pun) excited to see my favourite superheroes back in action. Especially Chris Evans returning as Captain America? Yes Captain America with a big question mark.

Rumours have been circulating all over the internet about whether Evans' Steve Rogers will remain as Cap or become Nomad like in the graphic novels. Or is he going to be just Steve Rogers? I don't know the answer to that as yet, but his character does appear to have a new shield! Apparently. The new trailer shows him geared up and wearing a new piece of what appears to be Wakandan (referring to Wakanda where T'Challa/Black Panther originates from) tech.

There is plenty going on in the new lengthy trailer (3 minutes ans 12 seconds!) including more footage of Tom Holland's Spiderman, the return of Benedict Cumberbatch's Dr. Strange and not forgetting the original Avengers team. But the focus is all on Cap's new shield. Although later in the trailer Rogers can be seen running towards the camera along side Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow, Mark Ruffalo's Hulk, Sebastion Stan's Bucky/Winter Soldier and Chadwick Boseman's Black Panther . During this scene Roger's is actually wearing this new "shield" on both arms. So they may even be some type of gauntlet. Is the rounded red and blue Star shield gone for good? I for one hope not.

What do you think of these two new Superbowl trailer releases? Are you excited? Disappointed? Which of the two are you looking forward to seeing the most this year?
