Fiction Publications We Recommend!

In conjunction with this week's 'Themed Thursday' we have decided to focus on our love of reading here at The Realview Room with our theme, "Bookworms...Assemble!"

Because of this, we thought it might be fun to provide all of you with a list of some of our favourite fiction novels and/or series that we feel that you may also cherish or want to give a go too!

A Court of Thorns and Roses Series - Sarah J Maas. (The A Court series comprises of 4 books and 1 novella all written by Sarah J Maas)

The first book of the series is called A Court of Thorns and Roses. Feyre, the female lead, is the sole provider for her family, she hunts to feed and clothe her siblings and father. Until one fateful night, she killed what she believed to be a humongous wolf for it's pelt. The following evening, a furious beast broke into Feyre's tiny cottage claiming that she had taken a fairy's life. According to their rules she must now live with him in Prythian.

The first book of the series seems to be loosely inspired by Beauty and Beast, but it is it's own creature. Plenty of twists and turns to keep readers both shocked and hooked.

The second A Court of Mist and Fury is also thought to be loosely based on the tale of Persephone and Hades, it's also Game Guru Jess's favourite book with A Court of Silver Flames in a very very close second.

The Novella A Court of Frost and Starlight is perfect to read during the festive season, as the story takes place during the winter solstice.

If you use Audible like our Game Gurus, you can now purchase Graphic Audio versions of A Court of Thorns and Roses, there's a whole cast of actors with music and sound affects Game Guru Jess will be purchasing these once more are released! Unfortunately it does currently cost two credits for the each book as they are in two parts.

You can also purchase this version on Graphic Audio's website. If anyone has purchased this version of the story please let us know what you think of them as we would love to know!

The DC Icons Series

There are currently 6 books in this series.

All standalone novels, so you don't need to read them in any particular order, but here is the order of publication just incase this is something you would like to do.

Wonderwoman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo Batman: Nightwalker By Marie Lu Catwoman: Soulstealer by Sarah J Maas Superman: Dawnbreaker by Andrew Eiden Black Canary: Breaking The Silence by Alexandra Monir and Harley Quinn: Reckoning by Rachael Allen The DC Icons book series offers a fresh take on the world's favourite DC Comics heroes (and anti hero in Harley's case). as the stories take place in our heroes teenage years, we get to see a part of their experiences before they take on their world famous mantles and become the heroes we know and love.

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

Get ready to fast forward in time to the year 2045 where you will enter a dystopian world, destroyed by an energy crisis where the masses heavily rely on the use of The Oasis. A hugely popular online simulation where gamers can leave their current situation to enjoy a world of pure imagination created by game developer and 80s pop culture enthusiast James Halliday.

After the creator's demise, with no family or next of kin, his entire fortune, estate and ownership of his beloved Oasis is up for grabs! But there is one catch! To obtain this huge fortune participants have to find clues to unlock keys that lead to the infamous Easter eggs that is hidden within his own creation. For years, gamers known as "Gunters" have searched through archives and wracked their brains in order to try and solve these impossible clues as to where Halliday's Easter eggs are located, all with no avail.

That is until one day, a young gamer's name appears on the scoreboard for the very first time! The story follows Wade Watts, a teenager living with his aunt and a menagerie of occupants in a small trailer like home. It is indeed Wade who find's Halliday's first key! Wade has to compete in a race against the entire world in hope to win the inheritance of James Halliday's entire fortune.

This brilliantly written fiction novel by Earnest Cline is an absolute all time favourite of our Kim. The imagination and attention to detail in regards to 80s pop culture and decades worth of gaming is clearly apparent. This story will definitely appeal to your inner nerd! Let's admit it, we all have one. If you love lots of pop culture references and love to read adventure type novels, then you must give Ready Player One a go! The book was also adapted into a movie by director Stephen Spielberg (we even have a review of the film, here on our site!), but we do advise you read the book first as they are quite different, both exciting nonetheless. There is also a second book titled Ready Player Two, which we believe is also said to be made into a motion picture. Does anyone solve the clues to find the three keys and eventually Halliday's Easter Egg? Who knows?

The Chronicles Of Narnia Series by C.S Lewis/Francis Spufford

This classic collection showcasing tales of magic and adventure is a firm favourite of Game Guru Aran's when it comes to fiction.

They may not be too recent but that doesn't mean that they aren't an absolute star in the world of stories. C.S. Lewis brings to life a wide variety of characters and worlds. This is a book series where readers of most ages (particularly young readers) can enjoy great character development as some of the most loved characters in the world of fiction share their bravery and heroism with us all. These are stories that have inspired all around the world, they have even been an inspiration for a series of films too. Which many have come to love since their release. The Chronicles of Narnia book series is a must read for bookworms that love to read stories of good old fashioned adventure!

What are some of your favourite books/novels? We would love to hear from you either in our website's chat box or over on our social media accounts!

We hope you like our little varied selection of our favourites, we of course love so many more, however it is impossible to write about each and every single one of them. Although the team are all currently reading new stories which we can't wait to share with you in the future, so keep your eyes peeled bookworms!
