Games for Marvel Fans!

Updated: May 21, 2022

Being a part of the Marvel fandom is hard to keep up with when it comes to merchandise, as the brand covers a wide range to peak fan's interests. There is so much to discover within the franchise: comics/graphic novels, films, shows, toys, collectible figures and sets, music, games and more!

So for this post we thought it might be helpful for gaming fans which Marvel products might be worth giving a try.

Let's start with probably the most popular of the gaming types. Video gaming. There have been many releases over the years with the Marvel franchise at it's focus with a huge variety of characters, stories and an even wider variety of styles of game play.

For example, The Guardians have had two major video games released with the well known characters being front and centre of the storylines.

The first of the two was the Tell-Tale series game that was released on consoles with the first episode back in April 2017. This style of game play allows you to create the character's stories by selecting the options from a multiple choice panel that appeals to your story the most. You are the game, the imagery is your paint and the choices you make are your paintbrush.

The second of the two games that feature The Guardians of The Galaxy is a more recent release. October 2021 to be more precise. This was welcomed with open arms by fans as it was released at a time when we were all spending more time at home due to a certain worldwide pandemic that frankly caused pandemonium and sent countries all over the world into states of lockdown, meaning many of us were frustrated and bored at home not being able to attend work, school, social events and so on. So this is ones game that helped to fill the void.

This product is one that was briefly streamed via our Twitch channel by our girls, Game Guru Jess and TRR owner and editor Kim, it is different in it's play style compared to the Tell tale series game as it's a third person, adventure style video game as you lead the guardians on various missions of absolute chaos with plenty of fun antics and colourful dialogue along the way. Both are available on multiple gaming platforms.

Other video games worth a mention include Another game from Square Enix and developed by Crystal Dynamics. If you've not already guessed it we are of course about to talk about the 2020 release Marvel's Avengers. Like many other video games on the market, Avengers is an adventure style game which includes a campaign/story mode, online gaming as well as extra levels gained via DLC.

The game is still presently regularly receiving updates from the developers including levels and new playable characters, most of the character releases have been brought out alongside the films or series with of the same content. It is one that we have enjoyed streaming live with our Game Gurus to show the remarkable game play. The game is also the first of this type to introduce the character Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, a teen who is a huge fan of the Avengers and ends up gaining powers and becoming one herself. This is a game that the whole Realview Room team have loved to play and explore. Despite the very long loading screens in between levels, the game is still most definitely a big thumbs up from us here and a must play for the Marvel gaming fans.

Time to move on from video games and move onto a different area of gaming. Lets talk table top games! Marvel merchandise is pretty much everywhere, and there's no exception when it comes to games. Again due to lockdowns more and more people were becoming more interested in starting new hobbies such as investing in table top games to spend time with their families. Of course there are many versions of Marvel Monopoly with many different themes that are accustomed to feature certain sets of characters. As there are so many versions we won't be including those in our list. Although they are great fun and some have different variations of play.

Probably one of our favourite table top games from the Marvel franchise is 5 Minute Marvel. A fast paced card game for ages 8 years and up to defeat different enemies using your hero cards while playing against a timer app that is made just for this game. In case it isn't obvious enough, the aim of the game is to defeat all of your enemies in a round lasting, you guessed it, 5 minutes! The rules are relatively easy to learn, the cards contain great bright and colourful images and it's just a really fun little game. Well, we say little, the packaging is pretty big.

Other table top games that are worth a mention are mostly games that have already been previously released as original ideas but redesigned with a Marvel Comics theme. For example this is the case for games such as Villanous, Love letter, Dicemasters and Hero Clix.

Even though they can still be referred to as table top games, there are also plenty of card games available too. Legendary the deck building game is said to be a very popular choice among collectors of card based games, however this is not one that we have actually tried, so it's not one that we can wholeheartedly recommend as such, but again worth a mention. One card game with the Marvel brand association that we can recommend is Cards Against Marvel.

A game for adults! Based on the original card game Cards Against Humanity, a card game where you can match sentences to some rather crude answers, simple enough to learn in regards to the rules but so much fun to play if you have a certain sense of humour and fancy a laugh. Maybe not as good as the original Cards Against Humanity base game but still so much fun.

The last card based game that we would like to include here is the newest of our games mentioned - Marvel Mayhem. This is a game that originated as a card based Dungeons & Dragons game linked to the Wizard's of the Coast campaign, but this version has been given the Marvel Comics makeover treatment. In the pack you will find 4 card decks relating to different Marvel characters (Scarlet Witch, Captain Marvel, Black Panther and Iron Man).

This is a battle style card game where two to four players can take swipes at each other (not literally of course) using skills and allies to remain the last one standing and the winner of the game. We have not actually given this one a go however we have played the original version of the game Dungeon Mayhem and it still remains as one of our favourite card based games to play. So this is something we are looking into getting a hold of in the near future so that we can play and stream it for all of you.

So there you have it! Some of the games that might be worth giving a try if you're a Marvel fan. We hope you like what you've seen and hope that we may heave inspired you to check out some of the titles mentioned to play with your friends and loved ones. If you have played any of these game already, then what did you think? Are there any other Marvel Games out there (yes there are a lot of them too) that you feel deserve an honorary mention in the Marvel gaming hall of fame?

We would love to hear from you so please feel free to share your thoughts via our chat pop up box here on our website or by getting in touch with us on any of our social media platforms listed at the top of our home page. If you like our content then any likes and follows would be greatly appreciated as the content we aim to provide at the end of the day is for you Roomies out there.
