Stranger Things: Eddie Munson - Who Is This New Lovable Rogue in Season 4?

With each new season of Stranger Things, comes new characters, particularly very likable ones. Season 4 is no exception to this rule as it introduces us to probably one of the series' most memorable characters to date. Eddie Munson!

Eddie is portrayed by the actor Joseph Quinn. The actor may be somewhat recognisable from his previous role of Koner (a Stark soldier) within the epic fantasy series Game of Thrones. However his current role in Stranger Things is a very different one.

Who is Eddie Munson?

Eddie is a student at Hawkins High, an outspoken, 80's metal music junkie who cares very little for school but has a passion for a very popular RPG. Yes, you've guessed it, Dungeons & Dragons (What else would it be in this series? haha). Eddie is the leader of the Hawkin's High D & D club, also known as "The Hellfire Club". He takes his role very seriously as he leads players through their campaigns.

Munson is not exactly perceived to be well liked by his peers, he has a particular dislike for the school basketball team, mostly it's team captain . Fan favourite Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) even refers to him as Eddie 'The Freak' Munson when talking on the phone to Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo).

His small group of acquaintances appear to start and end with his fellow Hellfire Club members. Although season 4 volume 1 does show the audience that Eddie has a fondness of cheerleader Chrissy Cunningham who is played by actress Grace Van Dien.

Upon initially being introduced to the character, fans of the series may not take an immediate liking to Eddie as he comes across as in my opinion "a bit much". He has no filter when it comes to voicing his opinions to make his views heard.

He is also a big and loud personality who loves to make his presence known, mostly to the annoyance of others around him in which he clearly thrives on. So why is this character the new '"favourite" within the show?

Eddie Munson is undeniably a character that will be a memorable one for the show for a long time to come, with his big personality that is full of humorous put downs and metal references mostly.

Although later in volume 1 of season 4, we as viewers do get to see a softer, compassionate and more vulnerable side to him as the story line becomes darker and more complex in which he ends up being hunted by the local law enforcement after some of his fellow high school students are murdered.

What's next for Eddie?

Due to the popularity of this new character, and going by what viewers have seen in previous seasons of Stranger things, many fans are fearing the worst for Eddie in regards to his future within the series. There have been many likable characters that have been introduced into previous seasons and have been sadly bumped off by the end of the series. This seems to be an ongoing theme within the Stranger Things franchise. A couple of examples that support this theory are Bob, Alexi, Barb and Billy. If you don't know who they are then I highly suggest you go back through the previous seasons to find out.

Images of season 4's volume two have also surfaced online, one of them showing Eddie playing his guitar in the upside down. The treacherous underworld where the show's villains seem to be living in. Music is a very big part of season 4's plot in regards to defeating it's current antagonist, the D & D monster that is Vecna. So could this be Eddie sacrificing himself to save another? We are yet to find out. Volume 2 of the current season is due for release on the Netflix streaming service on Friday 1st July. So there's not too much more of a wait to find out what happens.
